Well we have some good news and some bad news. Good news first. We found a customs agent that will work with us and is charging a reasonable fee that will keep us within budget.
Bad news is that South Africa has a VAT. The value we put on the books for insurance purposes will determine the value that is taxable. The library contents, if purchased new, is worth $7,000. I will have to spend quite a bit of time trying to research the used value of it but it won't be low enough to allow us to do the Wendy House by the time we are done being taxed. We really don't want to insure the library for less than it would take to replace it if Gods forbid something should happen enroute after everyone's hard work for so many months. When I moved back to the States from Samoa our cargo container was on the ship's deck instead of in the hold because it is cheaper than hold space. We suffered severe water damage for all our household goods so I know this is a possibility for our library too since we are doing the cheapest shipping possible.
Plan B. Always have a Plan B. Lady Raene is going to go through the 4 month process of getting the Clan of Kheper Temple qualified as a Non-Profit Organization which will exempt the library from the VAT. So we are losing time and fighting our way through uncharted waters but at the end of the process we should still be on budget and the library should have a nice Wendy House. Thank you Lady Raene Packery for doing the research and saving the day with Plan B.
